Death Stranding Game Review

Gameplay Experience: 21/25

Death Stranding features intuitive controls, with every button mapped in a way that feels natural from the start. The gameplay strikes a careful balance, creating an environment that is well-designed and deeply engaging, regardless of difficulty. While the game offers an open world, its main quest is fairly linear, with player choices mostly revolving around loadouts and deliveries. It’s essentially a tactical walking and postage simulator—but far more compelling than that sounds. Yet, this doesn’t make the experience any less satisfying. In fact, quite the opposite—Death Stranding fulfilled a need we didn’t know we had. Every milestone, from scaling a snow-covered mountain to delivering pizza and champagne, felt rewarding in ways we didn’t expect, making for a surprisingly gripping experience.

Presentation & Immersion: 23/25

The story and setting are hauntingly beautiful, depicting a post-apocalyptic United States where advanced technology clashes with an eerie, decayed world haunted by unseen creatures born from the dead. Death Stranding is a visual masterpiece, with breathtaking landscapes and highly detailed character models based on real actors, including Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges, Léa Seydoux as Fragile, and Mads Mikkelsen as Clifford Unger. The world feels alive yet unsettling, drawing players into its desolate but strangely mesmerizing atmosphere. The game’s licensed soundtrack—primarily featuring Silent Poets and Low Roar—perfectly scores key moments, adding emotional depth as you play. Tying it all together is a functional, if slightly cumbersome, interface that provides access to lore, tutorials, and delivery management without disrupting the game.

Design & Technical: 20/25

Death Stranding is undeniably well-crafted, standing out as one of those rare games that makes you wonder why something as simple as delivering packages can be so enjoyable. The game offers a ton of content, from exploring and collecting to crafting, all without any major bugs, making it easy to lose track of time and rack up a hundred hours or more. As you get into the more hostile areas, the AI stands out, flanking from multiple angles in a way that feels impressively realistic—something other games could definitely learn from. The flexible, customizable settings also improve the experience, allowing players to tailor it to their preferences. Overall, Death Stranding is a well-rounded, well-designed game, and the developer’s attention to detail is clear throughout.
